We bought a Boat!!!
Selkie is a Kadie Krogen 39 Trawler. She was built in 2000, and had two previous owners before we purchased her in November 2021.
We’ve had a 6 year hiatus of owning a boat since we’ve moved to the Lake Tahoe area. There were many things to do on the to-do list for us in the mountains, and with family. But the yearning to get back on the water has become strong. So we’ve yielded to that yearning!
The decision to purchase Selkie came after months of research. We prioritized a lot of things, did a lot of research and thought about what we wanted in a boat. We decided on some critical criteria:
- The boat had to be comfortable as we were going to spend significant time living on board
- The boat had to be well built and safe, as our experience had shown that the best planning you can do does not always yield a safe times
- The boat had to be economical to operate
- The boat had to be capable of doing the Great American Loop.
After studying manufacturers, websites, social media groups, and talking with people, we narrowed our choice down to one boat: The Kadey Krogen 39.
The prior owner kept Selkie in fantastic shape, and she shows 10 years younger than she is. We are very excited to have her, and plan to spend a lot of time on her for the next several years.
