Long Distance Love can be Hard

By now, those of you who are connected with me on social media, know that we are putting Selkie up for sale.

We’ve gone back and forth so many times during the Loop on what we would do with Selkie when we were done that I’ve been wearing a neck brace.

Selkie in Covered Portage Anchorage, one of our favorite anchorages.

All the course corrections in making our decision really didn’t feel right… until it did.

It was a hard decision, one that Libbie and I discussed for months, if not years, in terms of what we were going to do when we finished our loop.

Both Libbie and I have had a lot of experience in decision making in our careers.  This one was one of the hardest in my life.  We love the boat.  But there is so much other stuff we want to do.

We simply don’t want to leave Tahoe yet, and with that in mind, it makes no sense to have such an asset we love pull us away from a home we love.

Long distance love can be hard.

We’re not done yet, but we’re very close, only three days, from crossing our wake and completing the Loop.

Selkie been a wonderful boat and from the sounds of it, many of you have fallen in love with her just like we have.

Selkie, with family

We will miss Selkie, but we know she will treat the next owners as well as she treated us.

We will miss Selkie, but we have our memories and friendships to carry with us the rest of our lives.

We will miss Selkie, but she taught us that we can live in a 300 square foot apartment and still have a wonderful life.

We will miss Selkie , but we will carry forward the strength in Libbie’s and my relationship, as Selkie taught us how to live on little, how to really communicate better, and how to live a wonderful life together.

We plan to cross our wake, weather conditions permitting on or around 8/31 in Solomons Island, Maryland.

We will also be at the Capital Yacht Club in Washington DC for several days in early September.

You’re welcome to look us up and help us in either place celebrate what has been an amazing journey.

I think this is my favorite picture of us on Selkie. Photo Credit Megan Dykstra, a cousin.

Onward to the finishing of our Loop!

I had a lot of fun in my day job in Silicon Valley, most recently as a research and development program director developing display technology.

After retiring, I taught skiing as a follow-on career for fun for 6 years.

I’m very happy to continue my passion with Boating.

I'm even more passionate about our family and friends, and cooking for them when we see them, especially for our 4 grandkids.

My wife and I have been married almost 40 years.

I still volunteer occasionally for non-profit Boards, most recently serving as the Board Secretary for the Western Division of the Professional Ski Instructors of America / American Association of Snowboard Instructors.
